A German Maggini Model
These German Maggini models have found favor with fiddlers for their robust, “travelin’” tone, along with the similar da Salo copies. Da Salo was Maggini’s teacher so it makes sense that they look like kin!
This boy is bigger than the average bear, with a body length of 14 1/8 inches. The extra length helps pack some of that punch! This fiddle has the fancy double purfling and extra turn to the scroll. Sometimes more is more! The antiqued varnish is of an orange-brown color on gold. The back is like a watercolor. It’s just like lookin’ into a lovely deep lake!
